Essential Records artist Krystal Meyers is back with her sophomore effort entitled, Dying for a Heart. Over the past year since Krystal’s debut release she has been very busy playing in front of hundreds of thousands of fans, receiving lots of radio time and to top it off touring around the world and having huge success in Japan! Krystal is quite accomplished for her age!
In Dying for a Heart Krystal shows maturing lyrics and a new musical direction blending into a great album. From beginning to the end Dying for a Heart brings forth a new edgy rock blend with a small hint of pop/rock to put a very good combination of songs. Some of the songs aren’t very original, but that evens out with the great lyrics.
Meyers wrote some incredible lyrics this time ‘round! Sticking with the “Anticonformity” beat, Krystal has some very convicting and sincere songs on Dying for a Heart. Take for instance the last track “Hallelujah,” the second verse goes, “The shedding a tear, the taste becomes stale, this is why I am here, the scar of a nail…” later in the bridge goes “Heaven has the pleasure of having you here… angels saying welcome home…” Also the already popular song “The Beauty of Grace” is a great piece, portraying mercy, grace and God’s love.
A song some people may find a little awkward is “The Situation” probably the most mature writing from Krystal we’ve seen yet. It is obviously for teens and can be very convicting; I think it could be a great tool for the church to use. The chores goes something like this “A promise made to treasure, you don’t have to give away, falling for the pressure… (Couple lines later)… don’t take the situation this love was made to wait.” At first when I heard this I was a little worried people would portray this wrongly, but the more you listen the more it is clear, it also helps to read the lyrics.
Out of the 10 tracks on Dying for a Heart, so many are very good, which made tough to choose what ones to write about. I think anybody who liked Krystal Meyers’ debut will think that Dying for a Heart is a huge improvement, and to note, her debut was a great album!
Overall, Dying for a Heart is something new and fresh, although some will disagree; I think this will give Krystal the push she needs to plant her self in with the top Christian artists and quite possibly shed light into the secular industry. The one downfall to Dying for a Heart is how quick the experience goes by. Like her debut there are only 10 tracks and is a mere 32 minutes in length. Other than that I think Krystal Meyers has really put together a great effort and has another great album under her belt.

Essential recording artist Krystal Meyers’ debut self titled is one that is different from the rest. It’s hard to come across a debut album that sounds like the artist has been around for years. Not only did Krystal Meyers bring out an amazing debut but being only 16 when recording is phenomenal!
Krystal Meyers stated this in her bio; I'm a teenager myself, so I will be able to talk to kids on levels that a twenty-four-year old can't. All teenagers including myself can be rebellious at times and say, 'You don't know anything!' Well, I am a teenager so I'm talking a language that other teens will be able to understand. I find this very true. Being a teen myself I find that her music is honest, true, and sincere. Not very often will you find a teen with such a passion for God.
Krystal Meyers’ lyrics are very inspiring. Take “Fall to Pieces” for example; the song is talking about how if everything around you is falling to pieces then look to God for guidance. One of my favorite lines in the song is “I fall to pieces without you.” Krystal’s lyrics are great through out the entire album. Krystal’s self-titled bow is a teen anthem rocker that will inspire her peers with a high-energy groove and a heartfelt call for individuality.
I’d recommend this to anyone who likes pop/rock. Most of the songs are upbeat, vocals are consistent. If you’re looking for something new, and you like female vocalists I think this album will do you well. If you like Superchic[K] or BarlowGirl you should check out Krystal Meyers!
