Jeremy Koering: I love your new CD Reach, but you went with a totally different style than from your debut self titled CD. Could you explain what influenced you to change your style so much?
Warren Barfield: I think mostly it was just the time that passed between the two records that make them sound so different. It was three years between the first record and REACH. Also it was my desire to express my passion in what I was saying. It came across as very soulful because I really forced myself to open up my soul and pour it all out.
Jeremy Koering: How did you get into music?
Warren Barfield:Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents are singers and musicians so music was always around me. From the time I was fifteen it's all I wanted to do. I was eighteen when I devoted myself full time to it, and I haven't been able to stop.
Jeremy Koering: What are some of your musical influences? How do they reflect in your music?
Warren Barfield: Of course my parents, everything I have ever listened to and liked has influenced me. My vocal style, the way I play guitar, my melodies and lyrical style, they are all a montage of all the things I have ever experienced. This list would be many pages long and
Jeremy Koering: Which of your songs, from either CD, is the most meaningful to you?
Warren Barfield: There isn't one more meaningful than another. I can remember the exact circumstance in which each was written. My songs, each in their own way, are reminders of my journey.
Jeremy Koering: What is your favorite song off of your new album Reach?
Warren Barfield: Again, this is the one question I never have an answer for. It's impossible to name a favorite. Each has something about it that is equally special to me as another. My favorite theme that seems to be intertwined through many of the songs is the fact that our hope is not found in the temporary fragile things of this world. Our success or failure can not and should not be judged on how well we are building kingdoms here because they can not and will not last. We are living for a Kingdom beyond the walls of this world that can not be quantified by any worldly system.
Jeremy Koering: What is your favorite venue (or city) to play at?
Warren Barfield: I got to go with any where in North Carolina. That will always be home to me. Or Chicago, Chicago has become one of my favorite cities to visit.
Jeremy Koering: If you could choose anybody to tour with you, who would you choose?
Warren Barfield: My sister Rena Hill, check her music out at www.renahill.com or www.myspace.com/renahill
Jeremy Koering: What do you enjoy doing outside of music?
Warren Barfield: Hanging out with my wife, reading, & home projects. I like to pretend I'm a handy man.
Jeremy Koering: Thanks for answering my questions any last comments for MusicFAITH readers?
Warren Barfield: Thank you for letting me share my music and my story with the MusicFAITH staff and readers. I hope you enjoy the songs on my new record REACH. If you dig it, spread the word.
