Creation NW 2006 - Friday Concert Review

Friday was a day I stayed on the main stage, and went to various seminars and interviews at the Hear It First tent. I did see a handful of artists, and really had a relaxed schedule. The fringe had a lot of good bands, but I had recently seen all of them at various concerts.

Some of the acts that I’d never seen that I’d been excited to see were, Starfield, Superchick, and David Crowder Band. All of these had great sets, and they were very entertaining.

One of the few bands I hadn’t heard much of before Creation Fest was Pocket Full of Rocks. The band reminded me of kind of like Casting Crowns; they were really good and had worship on their minds. Pocket Full of Rocks is pretty much your standard pop/rock/worship band.

The Canadians out numbered the Americans for Starfield’s set. The band put together a great set of rock worship. As they were coming on stage a bunch of blow up hockey sticks (You know them Canadians and their hockey, eh?) it was pretty crazy! If you see Starfield in your area, go and see them! Pick up their latest CD Beauty from the Broken.

One of my favorites to watch/listen to live is Sanctus Real. They had a great list of songs they played, including some of their hits like “I’m Not Alright” and “Everything About You.” Sanctus isn’t known for being crazy on stage, but they are all very talented and put together awesome shows, don’t miss them if they’re in your area! Catch them on tour this fall with Superchick and John Rueben!

It’s been a while since I last saw Thousand Foot Krutch live in concert. This was their first year on the main stage, and they were really excited about it! They put together a great set and set the tone for the night. They played a lot of their hits from Phenomenon and their latest release The Art of Breaking as well debut hit “Puppet.”

Superchick came out and gave a great message and put on a fantastic show, I think they were the second most entertaining band, the first is DC*B who played right after Superchick. They played a lot of their new songs along with some of there popular hits. I was very pleased with the message Tricia Brock (lead vocals) gave. Catch them on tour this fall with Sanctus Real & John Rueben on the Live Love Tour!

One of the bands I was most excited about seeing is also my pick for most entertaining band; David Crowder Band. They had the crowd very involved, and kept the pace high, it’s the first time I’ve seen someone play a professional keytar. DC*B mixed up the night, sneaking in their now normal, Bluegrass section of the evening. Definitely a must see act!

The headliner for Thursday was Third Day. I’m not their biggest fan, but did enjoy the songs I watched. I headed to bed pretty soon after they started; they had some great bedtime tunes! By now those of you who are Third Day fans are screaming at your monitor because I skipped a big portion of their show. Thursday was an exhausting day, and Saturday wasn’t much different. I must admit Third Day had some sweet lights! Catch them on tour with David Crowder Band and Hyper Static Union this fall.

Friday ended up being a great day. The evening had a variety of genres, but ended up being a very popular day. The afternoon was marginal with acts like Leeland and Sanctus Real on the main stage and The Myriad, Mainstay, House of Heroes on the Fringe stage. The morning was pretty good; it was my first time to see Starfield and Pocket Full of Rocks.
