After the postponement of Creation Northeast many of the bands and speakers were excited to play/speak at Creation Northwest. This made Creation NW ’06, seem more enjoyable. This was my second time to Creation NW after missing last year’s due to preparing for a mission trip. The crowds looked larger and sounded louder than 2004, which was the first time I went.
This year’s line up was a great one, with lots of variety, my first opinion of this year’s artists was that it seemed to be more rock bands playing the main stage in the evenings. In recent years it has been common that most rock/hard rock bands would be put on the Fringe or on the Main stage in the afternoon, this year Creation showcased bands like Kutless, Thousand Foot Krutch and Skillet on the Main Stage at night. This was exciting for many fans of the rock scene.
After a long wait in the hot sun, the gates finally opened. With the security slowly directing us towards the main stage as soon as they let us loose it was a mad dash to the front. This year’s lead off band was SRE Record’s Skillet. This was the first time for thee high energy hard rock band to play on the main stage in the evening. Skillet played a variety of songs including some new ones from the bands upcoming release, Comatose, which is slated to release October, 3rd, which is an amazing album!
Next was Sparrow recording artist Bethany Dillon, probably one of the most talented teenagers in music. One of the weird things about Bethany being next was that she’s a totally different style than Skillet, to go from a hard rock group to a pop/rock soloist was kind of an awkward transition, but Beth made the best of it and said she couldn’t think of any times that she could through in random screams. I also saw Bethany on Thursday on the Spirit 105 Acoustic Café Stage. You can read more about this show in the Thursday section.
After Bethany was Sparrow Record’s latest worship leader, Vicky Beeching. Although she got a very short 15 minutes she made the best of it. She also played at various times on Thursday and also was interviewed live with our friends at HearItFirst.com. She did some familiar songs like Matt Redman’s hit worship song “Blessed Be Your Name” and some of her own from her debut release Yesterday, Today and Forever.
Wednesday’s speaker was one of my favorites, Bob Lenz. He had a great message about how everyone deserves life and how Hitler was wrong to use those who he said weren’t “worthy of life.” I really enjoyed the message and as normal Bob really got into it and was really passionate about his teachings.
BEC Recording artist Jeremy Camp came out with a bang, fighting a cold, Jeremy still rocked out and put on a great show. There were times you could tell he was fighting his cold and he did struggle a little bit, but again fought through it and really put together a great set, and got the crowd excited and ready for the next band Relient K.
For the first time at west Relient K was the headliner for one of the nights. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed Relient K as much as I did at Creation, things just seem better with thousands of people. R K played some of their best songs, from multiple albums; they also played songs from the movie Top Gun. Relient K had a very enjoyable show, as normal.
Overall Wednesday was a great way to start Creation ’06. All the bands and artists were great, probably the best nightly lineup of all Creation NW. Thursday featured some of my favorite artists like; Kutless, Stellar Kart, Krystal Meyers, Day of Fire, Pillar, and Audio Adrenalines final show.
