An Evening of Compassion Featuring Caedmon’s Call, Bebo Norman, Geoff Moore, John David Webster and Hyper Static Union hit Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. The venue, which just happens to be my church, is set up for music. It’s a great venue, and fitted An Evening of Compassion tour perfectly.
Kicking the night off was probably the crowd favorite, for good reason too, Hyper Static Union is from the area, and in fact they use to live before leaving for Tennessee just a couple minutes from the venue. Shawn Lewis first came out and started with an acoustic version of “Overhead” nearing the end of the song the rest of the band came out and started to pick up the pace. Sadly Hyper Static Union only got enough time for a couple songs including “Sunny Days” and a song that they’d really like to call their own, a funk rock version of “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder.
After Hyper Static came out John David Webster, before this night I’d never really heard any of his music. He started off with his radio hit “Miracle” and continued through his short acoustic/piano set. He’s very talented and has some good tunes.
Singer/Songwriter Geoff Moore was up next, he also played the role of the nights emcee. He sang some songs and talked about Compassion International & adoption. This guy has some amazing stories. He was joined by Caedmon’s Call, Bebo, and Shawn Lewis of Hyper Static Union in the singing of a couple of his songs. He really got the crowd thinking about the third world, and the world’s hunger problems.
After a brief intermission the headline acts Caedmon’s Call and Bebo Normal came out and preformed together. It was a little bit different than you’re typical concert. Instead of having one band after another they shared the stage, switching between Caedmon’s and Bebo. It was really cool. Bebo was amazing, he sang a couple of his radio hits, he’s a great entertainer while keeping a strong message of it’s not about me, but about God. Caedmon’s Call shared about their experiences in India, Ecuador and Brazil. They mixed up songs playing new and old. In the end I found the concert very good and enjoyable. This is a must see for all of the fans of any of the bands playing. I think you’ll enjoy it just like I did.
