The Hearts of the Innocent Tour featuring headliner Kutless, Falling Up, Disciple & Stellar Kart, hit a packed house of 2,100 people at Rolling Hills church in Portland, OR. This tour date was a bit different than others on the tour, Kutless was filming their live DVD scheduled to come out later this year.
The venue, Rolling Hills church, has stadium seating. It’s got one of the best church sound systems around and was a good setting for a filming of a live DVD. At first security wasn’t going to allow standing in the front, but then the emcee/speaker said “this is a rock concert, everyone to the front!” and all the sudden all the seats were empty and there was a mad dash to the front.
Word/Curb recording artist Stellar Kart started the night off with their hit song “Student Driver” overall their set was really good playing 5 of their best songs of their one and only CD All gas. No brake. They also were very entertaining. They have an awesome message and all are talented musicians. Stellar Kart didn’t overdue any of the volumes or lights. It was a very pleasant set, and wasn’t deafening.
Next was SRE recording artist Disciple, I don’t know a lot about their music. They talk about their faith a lot, which is really cool! I was impressed with how they approached the crowd. Some of their music I didn’t really like, some of the vocals were too loud, but I’m sure if you’re a Disciple fan you’d enjoy it greatly. The lights were very bright, I found myself shielding my eyes, which was distracting me from their music.
After Disciple the speaker spoke while they were setting up Falling Up’s gear. I forgot his name, but he gave a great message! BEC recording artists and Oregon natives Falling Up and Kutless were coming up and the crowd was making their way up towards the front during the short message.
Falling Up came out and did an amazing set. Lead singer Jessy Ribordy started the set off by playing the popular song “Arafax Deep” on the piano. I’ve seen Falling Up play about 10 times now and their stage performance has gotten so much better since the first time I saw them. It was my first time seeing them in about 8 months and since then they’ve released their debut Dawn Escapses. They had awesome lights and they had a great set. It’s hard to believe that just two years before this band was an opening act for Kutless & Thousand Foot Krutch on the Sea of Faces Tour.
Finally it was time for the hometown guys, Kutless, took the stage in awesome way; I’m not going to spoil it for all those who are going to go on a future date. They had an amazing performance. I can’t wait until the concert DVD is out! It’s going to be awesome! They started off with the title track of their new album Hearts of the Innocent. They played songs from all four albums and had an awesome stage performance. The band did about 15 sons then re-did 5 of them for the DVD. It was a great concert and would be well worth 15-20 dollars!
