Hawk Nelson’s Green T Tour made a stop last weekend (March 14th) in Portland, OR at Rolling Hills Church. Upon arrival I was shocked to see a large number of fans waiting outside lining up to see the pop-punk sensation. It was quickly obvious that the tween-to-teen girls were here to add 50 unwanted decibels, to the already loud music.
Opening the tour is new Tooth and Nail act Capital Lights. The Oklahoma natives were surprisingly good! They resemble a Yellowcard vibe, with vocals that parallel The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights. Their set was short, typical for an opening act, but with only three bands I couldn’t help but think the concert ran short in general ending after only two and a half hours. Capital Lights has a full-length album out later this year.
Next Run Kid Run took the stage, I was excited to see Run Kid Run, even though I’m not very familiar with their music, I was interested to see what their live show is like. Though excitement brewed, I couldn’t help but be let down. Run Kid Run performed their music substantially well, however, not to be overdramatic or blunt, they were rather boring. But they did rock out their well-known hit “We’ve Only Just Begun.”
After Run Kid Run, Daniel Biro of Hawk Nelson walked out on stage and shared what The Hands and Feet Project is all about, and how the band is supporting it. It was cool to see this awesome project being advertised and hopefully the word will continue to spread. A short set change followed before the main act, Hawk Nelson, arrived onstage. The band rocked their set with many hits from their past two records, and their upcoming release, Hawk Nelson is My Friend.
Last time I saw Hawk Nelson was at Creation Fest (NW) last year. The band opened the festival and really got the crowd moving. It was probably the best Hawk Nelson show I’ve ever seen, so a high expectation followed on for this tour. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, but I would lean to say Hawk has performed better in the past performances I've seen. Nonetheless Hawk Nelson put on a fantastic show, the crowd quickly got into their high-energy show and rocked out to some of their favorite Hawk tunes.
If you’re a fan of Hawk Nelson definitely don’t miss this tour! They’ve got some good new pop-punk talent opening up the show, and put on a great, high-energy, show themselves. So go check out The Green T Tour, you’ll be pleased!
