Rick Mugrage Biography
Catchy, melodic acoustic rock-pop is how you would describe Rick Mugrages music. With influences ranging from Coldplay and Snow Patrol to Matchbox Twenty, Ricks music will grab you and take you on a ride you most definitely wont want to end.
It wasnt until just two years ago though that Rick realized he wanted to start something new. He has been singing, writing songs and playing since high school, but after band breakups and the heartache that followed, he had begun to grow weary of pursuing music altogether. Little did he know though that through this process a niche was being formed. Rick found himself being asked to play acoustically, a lot. Doors seemed to open, word started to spread, provision to record appeared, radio started to pick up singles and things finally seemed to fit. A lot of this can sound like a story of a struggling artist trying to make it, trying to attain something, but for Rick its about connecting with people and telling them that they have a destiny and a purpose, that theres more to life than the grind, that each and every person has a calling and a unique story to be a part of.
Through The Photograph
When you look at a photograph in itself, things can seem perfect, like a moment captured unblemished. You can get wrapped up in a world where everything around you boasts of being the ideal, or having to be faultless to fit in. Its during those times that life can pass by and make you feel like youve never attained normalcy, leaving you feeling empty, broken, and alone. If we would only look through the photograph at the life, the joy, the sorrow and pain, which were responsible for the seemingly flawless moment, we would see that the real beauty takes place in ones blemished, unperfected journey.
Through the Photograph is Rick Mugrages 2nd independent studio release. His first record (self titled), was received well by independent radio and his song Will Not Run, hit number 1 on The Effect Radio Network's TOP 44 requested chart for two weeks. When asked about his new record, Rick said, "I just wanted to capture the songs I had been working on in a real, intimate way", to do this he hired on close friend and fellow musician Steve Mielke to record and produce the album. "Everything fell together from there. Steve really had a feel for what I wanted to do and which route I wanted to take on this project. He was open to suggestions and at the same time had a lot of creative ideas. I think so much of recording a good record is being comfortable in the environment youre actually recording in, you know? He totally did that for me. So, if being comfortable while recording does make for a good record, this record should rock your face off!" laughs Rick.
