The Healing of Harms Album Review

When Fireflight burst onto the scene with their debut album they didn’t top any charts, but they certainly tried to leave a mark. Even though it is their debut album Fireflight has started their career on a very high note. Throughout the CD the band reveals their devout passion and faith for the Lord through deep and meaningful lyrics. These lyrics coupled with the high grade score of music makes this CD very worthwhile.

Music wise somehow they managed to give each song its own beat and keep the transition smooth. Although Fireflight did tend to alternate between soft and hard songs giving the sense that they are still trying to find heir right style. Besides this alteration they manage to keep the beats different and unrepeated. A real plus for Fireflight is the talent of Dawn Richardson who has a wonderful voice and manages to give Healing of Harms the quality that sets it apart. All through the album Dawn manages to raises her voice and hit the high notes during the song which really makes each song wonderful to hear. Unfortunately though the songs do kind of taper off near the end of the CD and start to form more ambiguous meanings. Other than that they did an overall great job.

As I said before the lyrics to this album are very deep. In fact underneath the most noticeable themes lie many sub themes that the band left to the listener to determine. Like in “It’s You” underneath the theme of God’s forgiveness lies the idea that God has a purpose of all of us and how with time that purpose will be revealed. Besides the many different the themes though there are two very dominant reoccurring themes: Searching for God and stepping aside to give God control of your life so that he may guide you along. In “You Decide”, probably the CD’s best and most memorable song, the theme of searching for God is very evident. The whole song is about how one person has been searching for a particular thing in his and has been oblivious to the fact that God has been giving this person signs of His existence. Then in the same song Fireflight uses the lines: “God is calling out to you again/ Let Him pull you, let Him take you in.” to convey the idea of letting God take over. Other memorable songs the album are “Star of the Show”, “Liar”, and “Myself”. All of which have their own unique message the band wants to deliver to the listeners.

Probably what jumped started the CD though was probably the appearance of two other very famous artists whom sang along with the band. First of all Josh Brown, Day of Fire, sang with Dawn in “You Decide” and secondly Dave Pelsue, Kids in the Way, loaned his voice in “Liar”. Both of theses songs also ended up being two of their most memorable songs too. The only question is the success of these songs because of these two artists or is the lyrics just that powerful? I honestly feel that the lyrics and band are what made this CD such a great one and the appearance of Josh Brown and Dave Pelsue really add to the effect. I sincerely hope that they continue their passion and talent in their in their sophomore album.
