Learning to Lose Album Review

Rocketown records imprint RKT artist The Turning is an elaborate Christian rock group from Chattanooga, TN. The band is made up by Jacob McGinnis Matt Warren, Jeff Goff and Jeremy Little. The Turning got its start when, Matt, Jeff and Jeremy decided to try their hand at modern rock, after leading worship in various hometown churches. The three set to work creating bass, drum, electric guitar tracks that were musically gripping, and the songs they crafted would make perfect sense alongside everything from Delirious to Foo Fighters to Switchfoot. Later the band found Jacob and asked him to be apart as the lead vocalist.

Learning to Lose is a great debut, one of the best rock acts this year! The band has an amazing sound, partially because of the way they combine so many guitar riffs with their guitar rhythms. One thing that The Turning has accomplished is producing tracks that are very catchy, easy to understand and easy to sing along with. In Learning to Lose the band keeps an energetic pace through out the beginning, but as you progress through the album they bring in some slower tracks. The play list they put together is very good; there aren’t many gaps, pauses or awkward change of keys.

Learning to Lose also has it’s share of stories, questions, prayers and praise, all combined into a great set of modern rock lyrics. Some of the lyrics have a great worship presence, while others are less serious and focus on story telling, the result is an album that can be used to encourage one another and praise God all at the same time! The band kept each song different and simple, but they brought an album together that doesn’t have any holes or drop offs.

Overall, The Turning has put together a great album! I would love to see this band become the next big band in the Christian music market. I think they have that kind of potential. If I was the one who produced the album I wouldn’t have changed anything, that’s how good it is. I think they’ve really hit the mark. This is a must have for any fan of modern rock, pop/rock. I think there is a good chance you’ll like The Turning and their debut, Learning to Lose.
