BEC/Tooth & Nail artist Kutless is back, with Hearts of the Innocent. The Portland, OR based rock band came out with a worship album, Strong Tower, last year and the highly anticipated follow up release Hearts of the Innocent is sure not to disappoint any fan of Kutless. The album was produced by Aaron Sprinkle, who one of the best known producers in the Christian music market.
Hearts of the Innocent starts out with the title track and instantly you’ll know that Kutless is back with another great album. As you listen you’ll find Kutless is building momentum in the first couple tracks, then they take it down a notch and calm down into a collection of songs like “Smile” which is sure to be a fan favorite, and then into a kind of a worship style song “Promise of a Lifetime.” Almost instantly Kutless brings back the momentum in “Winds of Change” and “Somewhere in the Sky” these two are sure to get stuck in your head!
John Micah Sumrall’s vocals are really good, consistent throughout the entire album. He takes all the notes and makes them sound really good! The guitars are amazing, lots of riffs, lots of unique sounds, bass in this album is also spectacular, and the drums are insane! Kutless drummer Jeffery Gilbert (former Seven Places member) is definitely a step up from the rest, lots of fills, and great beats.
Overall, Kutless leads their music from their worship album, Strong Tower, back to what they’ve been known for since they were signed with BEC. Hearts of the Innocent is more than just a great rock album, but an anthem to what they believe. If you’ve liked them in the past then you’ll love them now! I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves a good rock album!
