Trippy is a word that comes to my mind when trying to explain the newsboys’ latest project Go | Remixed. Focusing mainly on drums, special effects and vocals, this remix could be considered a great album by those into a pop-like techno vibe. While most of the remix blends together quite well, some of the tracks do stand out a little more and just don’t fit in as well.
One of the best tracks on Go | Remixed is “Your Love is Better than Life.” On the original album it was more diverse and more up-beat compared to the rest of the album, on the remix they’ve just added to it. By far one of my favorite newsboys’ songs from the Go album and the remix just adds to it.
“City to City” is the one, and only, new song on the album. It’s a lot more diverse including a female vocalist and instruments like trumpets. Nonetheless it’s one of the finer songs on the remix. “The Mission” has a lot of cool effects on it, and is another one of the better remixes. It’s more upbeat and electronic. While “The Mission” was hyped up a little bit, “Secret Kingdom” was slowed a little, but it’s still very good.
“I Am Free” is another one of the goodies on the album. Very different from the original worship feel, it has a more distinctive beat and emphasizes on the drums, but keeps the vocals clear and enjoyable. “Let it all Come Out” has been kicked up a notch. Sounds similar to a Justin Timberlake song, and has a very repetitive instrumentation. “Gonna Be Alright” is a semi-odd track on the remix and ends the album with one the most diverse vocal sound/effects, similar to listening to a tape recorder with drum beats, keyboard/synths and effects over top of it.
Adding only one new song, and only minor changes to the play-list, it seems repetitive and isn’t much different than the original album Go. If you’re a die-hard fan of the band, then this is a no-brainer, however if newsboys aren’t too high on your list, listen to clips of the album first. If you’re looking for party-music, then this may suit you if you like pop/rock. Go | Remixed isn’t a bad remix, and just to let you know that’s coming from someone who isn’t a fan of remixes.
