Wake Up! Wake Up! Album Review

The crunchy guitars, punk-like drums, the unique vocals of Trey Pearson, and the catchy, yet simple lyrics are all back! It’s been far too long too! Three whole years, and the long awaited follow up to Anthems for the Imperfect, Inpop Records’ Everyday Sunday releases their best yet, Wake Up! Wake Up! Everyday Sunday picked up where Anthems left off, the band has a new record label, and they are quickly being recognized in the radio charts!

Kicking off the CD is “Let’s Go Back” a song about relationships, and the joys and failures of relationships that Trey and the band have been through. “I know that you, you are busy living your own life / I can’t make you, make you give me all of your time / But I just wish it could be like it was yesterday / I think it stinks that these stupid problems got in the way / So let’s go back now to the times that were fun / I’m so sick of the lies that someone else’s mind has won / I don’t care what they think, I don’t care who all cares / I just don’t want you to leave” – first and second verses. Next is the high energy title track “Wake Up! Wake Up!” singing on the issue of realizing we all have a crucial role to play in God’s story, not just going through the motions, wasting our life in boredom. Next is “Take Me Out” is about a conversation with God and about knowing He is always right. “Take me out of this place / Make me a raging fire / Make me what You want to / Cause I don’t want to go down tonight / I don’t wanna go without a fight / I don’t wanna leave without Your scar” – Chorus.

Another song that I personally like the most is “Find Me Tonight” a song about we need God in life and can’t go alone. My favorite part is when it comes to the bridge “You speak without sound / Your love is so loud / You always save me” particularly the part that says “You speak without sound.” Think about that for a moment. “So find me / wherever I am won’t You / Find me / I got myself lost and I / don’t think / I want to be roaming in heartache / please find me tonight” – Chorus.

Other great songs, but not limited to, include; “Apathy for Apologies”, “What we’re Here For”, and “Tell Me You’ll Be There.” As I listened through Wake Up! Wake Up! I couldn’t help but notice how smoothly it plays, meaning the songs mix well together. This is a sure sign of good song writing and song selection.

In the end, Wake Up! Wake Up! is going to re-open doors for the band, being away from the music scene with new music has been a long and vigorous wait, but the patience for the new album is well worth the growth and maturity that is shown through the songs in this record. This is another must have for fans of Everyday Sunday! If you’re into the Rock / Alternative movement, then you’ll enjoy this awakening CD!
